Nehemiah Garrison, Sr was born c1712/15 probably MD., or possibly VA. and died on or before 15 May
1769 in Loudoun County, Virginia.

Documents include Tithable tax lists of Loudoun Co., Va. of 1760, 1761 and 1765 which gave Nehemiah as
head of household and lists his children as Moses, Aaron, John and Dunum. Further, there were Loudoun
County court estate and inventory records for Nehemiah, Sr. and of particular, there were legal proceedings
involving Nehemiah, Jr. and Moses in regard to the estate of their father. These documents had remained
undiscovered for over 245 years and had never come to light in their significance. This could have remained
the case for another 245 years had it not been for the DNA test which proved a non-relationship between
Moses (1737) and Isaac (1732). Tradition had long held the belief that Moses and Isaac were possibly
brothers. With this new-found information, a search was launched to find the true ancestry of Moses (1737).
A dedicated researcher of the Garrison Research Group discovered the above mentioned documents, some
of which had not been closely examined since before the American Revolution.

In regard to the legal proceedings documents, on 13 October 1769 an order was issued from the Court of
George III to the Sheriff of Loudoun County for the appearance of Nehemiah Garrison, Administrator of the
estate of Nehemiah Garrison, deceased to answer Moses Garrison of a plea of trespass, damage seventy
pounds.

The case was abated by the Court of Loudoun County on 15 March 1770 on the grounds that Nehemiah
Garrison was a non-resident of Loudoun County. Deputy Sheriff William Smith noted on the order of the
court, “Not found, he lives in Frederick County.” Nehemiah Sr’s estate was not settled until 09 March 1784
as a result of the American Revolution which had taken place in the meantime.

As of this report, research has not produced the identity of the father of Nehemiah, nor the names of his
siblings. Also, descendants of his sons Nehemiah, Aaron, John and Dunum remain unidentified. A concerted
research effort is on-going and the results of associated DNA analysis are beginning to produce results by
which research can be focused.
