Webmaster's Note: Remember that John was at least 81 years of age when he wrote the last paragraph of his
account, telling that in 1853 he moved to Cedar Falls, Black Hawk Co, Iowa.  Some of it is family stories that
were passed down and more time had transpired than he thought.

He wrote that it was his grandfather who came from Holland to New Amsterdam but the immigrant was his
great-great-grandfather, Gerrit Jansen van Oldenburg, a man who was "from" a town in Germany, but likely of
Dutch origin.

The list John gave of the children of his grandfather (Jacob Garrison, Jr) suggests they were not by the mother
of the other children.  In fact, he did not even mention the others.  John's list includes
Daniel, Alpheus,
Ephraim, John, Phoebe
and Jane.  The 1750 will of Jacob lists seven who were under age: Daniel, Ephraim,
William, Cornelius, Anna, Phebe
and Alphais.  Those children would have been born after 1730.
Unfortunately that does not suggest whether their mother was Jacob's second wife, Mary Wallen whom he
married in 1720, or his third, Elizabeth (Seeley?).
